This procedure encompasses all stages of laboratory operations, including sample collection, processing, slide preparation, staining, and reporting. Essential quality control measures encompass internal quality control (IQC), external quality assessments (EQA), and proficiency testing, in addition to regular equipment calibration, reagent validation, and personnel training. Troubleshooting is essential for resolving prevalent issues such as tissue artefacts, mislabelling, and inconsistent staining, facilitating prompt identification and rectification of potential errors. Efficient documentation, transparent contact with clinicians, and ongoing improvement initiatives augment laboratory performance. By implementing lean methods, automation, and digital pathology, histology laboratories can improve workflows, maximise resource utilisation, and increase diagnosis accuracy. A culture of quality control and troubleshooting in histopathology ultimately guarantees improved patient outcomes, regulatory compliance, and adherence to the highest standards of diagnostic excellence.
