Abstract
This paper is on the application of Theil’s regression algorithm on the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) and POST-JAMB scores of students of Abia State University, Uturu Nigeria. This method was adopted since all errors in the y-direction are not normally distributed for the commonly used least squares regression method for fitting an equation into a set of (x,y)-data points using the Anderson-Darling, Ryan-Joiner and Kolmogorov Smirnov test. The steps for Theils were stated in this paper. The data used for this research were collected from the admission unit of the University using a total sample of 200 selected randomly students from the Faculty of Science. The use of a programming language software known as “R Development”, 3.0.1 version was used to write a suitable formula for the bivariate data in this research. From the analysis, the result revealed that there is no significant difference between JAMB and Post-JAMB scores and the estimated fitted Theil’s is = 233.54545+0.5539 xi and it was observed that the intercept is significant. The result of this paper agreed with the research carried out by Unanka [1] using the parametric linear regression.
