Abstract

Aim of this paper is to study the effect of gravity on the radial vibrations in an unbounded micropolar elastic solid with a spherical cavity. Two dispersive relations are derived, in which one is influenced by the acceleration due to gravity of the medium and another one is coincide with the results of [10]. All these relations are not encountered in classical theory of elasticity. The dispersive curves and phase speeds versus non-dimensional gravity and radius are shown graphically. We noticed that high phase velocities and high dispersions are appeared at low gravity and results of classical case are obtained as particular case.

Keywords: Gravity, radial vibrations, micropolar medium, spherical cavity
