The Burr type III distribution has been applied in several areas such as environmetrics, forestry, economics, meteorology and water resources, among others. In this paper, Bayes predictive intervals for the one-sample and two-sample schemes are constructed. Some additional properties such as the asymptotic Burr III distributions for large parameter values and the distribution of the sth order statistic and hence that of the s-out-of-n structure are presented. A real data set is analyzed using the Burr type III distribution. The Burr type III distribution is shown to t a transformed set of breaking strength of 66 single carbon bers of guage length 50 m m, given in Lawless [1, p. 573]. Such data is then used to obtain Bayes predictive intervals for the one-sample and two-sample schemes. The Burr type III distribution can be thus used quite eectively in analyzing real life-time data.

Keywords: Burr types III and XII, one-sample prediction, two-sample prediction;, log-logistic, Frechet, generalized type 1 logistic distributions
