Abstract

The derivatives of quinoline are of chemical interest. They are easy to synthesize and susceptible to subsequent substitution and/or cyclization and ring transformation. The importance of derivation of quinolines to get other polynuclear heterocycles-containing quinoline is due to the fact that quinoline itself plays no part in fundamental metabolism while its fused systems e.g., furo, pyrrolo, indolo, etc. are best-known metabolites. This review covers recent use of quinoline derivatives as synthons of other polynuclear heterocycles.

Keywords: Quinoline, synthesis, heterocyclization, fused quinolines
