Abstract
New coordination complexes of Copper(II) with furfural isonicotinoyl hydrazone (FINH) viz. [Cu(FINH)(H2O)Cl](a), [Cu(FINH)(NO3)2].H2O(b), [Cu(FINH)(CH3COO)2].H2O(c) and [Cu(FINH)(SO4)].3H2O(d) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR, EPR, UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy. The ligand, FINH loses a proton and therefore exhibits enolic coordination in case of chloride complex (a) while FINH in the complexes (b), (c) and (d) exhibit solely through keto coordination. The insolubility in most of common solvents like DMSO, DMF, ethanol, methanol, benzene etc. suggests the non-electrolytic nature of the complexes. The spectroscopic and magnetic susceptibility measurement studies have suggested the Cu(II) complexes possess square planar geometries.
