Abstract

Microwave-assisted different heterogeneous catalysis reactions over a series of supported catalysts were investigated. By comparing their activity with the results under conventional heating system, we found that the microwave was not always friendly for the catalysts. Though they all could absorb microwave well, the microwave sometimes inhibited the catalytic activity of the catalyst. It proves that there exists a non-thermal effect of microwave other than the thermal effect, which makes the microwave ‘selectively’ accelerate the special catalyst to catalyze reaction.

Keywords: Microwave, heterogeneous catalysis, thermal effect, non-thermal effect
