Abstract
A series of monoazo acid dyes have been prepared by diazotization of 4-aminobenzoic acid with various coupling amines. The percentage yields were found to be in a good range from 46.5-74.5%. The structures of the dyes were confirmed using 1H-NMR, MS, CHN analysis and UV-Visible spectroscopy was used to determine the dyes intensity (hue). These dyes were applied at 2% depth on nylon 6.6 fabrics and gave light yellow, orange to brown hues with fairly good to good fastness to light and very good fastness to washing. The percentage exhaustion of the dye bath was found to be very good. The remarkable degree of levelness and brightness achieved after washing is an indication of good penetration and excellent affinity of these dyes for the nylon 6.6 fabrics.
