Abstract
The blend membrane of sodium alginate and polyacrylamide developed with Grewia mollis (GM-g-PAAM) and the swelling properties in aqueous solution was investigated. The sodium alginate to GM-g-PAAM ratio which developed membrane was 80:20, the membrane was cross linked with 1.7 X 10-3mol glutaraldehyde in 1% HCl in equimolar mixture of methanol and water uptake for 24hours. The membrane was casted on a plastic surface. The ability of the grafted membrane show an increase in water uptake with increasing amount of GM-g-PAAM in the blend mixture while the temperature and ionic strength increases with increase in ionic strength. This study present the membrane as a potential material for the treatment of waste water.
