Abstract
Effect of elastic foundation on the stability of functionally graded plates is investigated in the present paper. Based on the Kirchhoff plate theory and using the variational approach, stability equations are determined. It is supposed that material properties in FG plate vary through the thickness according to the power law function. Coupled stability equations are determined. For solving the stability equations analytically, equations are converted into separate equations utilizing a new methodology. Eventually, the effects of plate characteristics are investigated on the buckling load of plate. Novelty of presented study is to decouple the stability equations for buckling of rectangular plates. Also, an exact solution for buckling analysis of functionally graded rectangular plates resting on the elastic foundations is presented.
