Abstract
The focus of this study was to explore the determinants of job satisfaction among public sector workers in Ghana. The study also targeted which factor is contributing to the highest level of job satisfaction and identifies the most satisfying and least satisfying factor selected in the study. The study adopted descriptive analytical approach; a sample of 84 respondents was used for in terms of data collection. Data was collected through a close ended questionnaire coupled with Likert scale. Data has been analyzed by applying Regression, and ANOVA.
The findings indicated that among the five determinants of job satisfaction considered for the study work environment and opinion of employees proved to be the real determinants of employee’s job satisfaction in positive terms. The study also revealed that there were certain factors that play crucial role in job satisfaction of workers of which have not received much attention. The study proposed that employers take into account the factors which have been relegated to the background when considering job satisfaction of employees.
Studies conducted over the years on job satisfaction placed emphasis on financial incentives as most important determinants of job satisfaction; however it is about time employers take into consideration the importance of non financial incentives in the determination of employees’ job satisfaction. The practical implication of this study was to provide information to employers on some determinants of job satisfaction which are not purely monetary based but plays a crucial role in the job satisfaction of employees.
