Abstract
Objective: The goal of this study is to investigate the different causes of infertility in women of reproductive age in two different regions in West Algeria (Oran and Sidi Bel Abbes), so we can have more information on the infertility problem in Algeria.
Methods: We did a cross-sectional study in two different regions of Algeria, both situated in West Algeria, in total the study incorporated 252 patients, the data related to the different risk factor were collected using a questionnaire and interviewing the patient.
Result: The mean age of the patients was (33.31±6.61 years), 72.69% suffered from a primary infertility while 27.30% had secondary infertility. 30.95% of infertile women had no known cause, 13.49% of patient suffered from infertility caused by genital infection, 12.69% of women had infertility caused by problems in the Fallopian tube and 9.52% of infertility problem were caused by ovarian failure. Other found causes were advanced age >35 years old 7.93%, the presence of Fibroid 7.53% and the presence of cystic ovary.
Conclusion: The result of the study demonstrated that after full examination a large proportion of women had no known reason for their infertility problem showing there is a lack of effective handling of infertility in the two regions studied, thus leading to the conclusion that more attention should be given to this particular problem.
