CHEMICAL CAUTERISATION FOR THE CLOSURE OF TYMPANIC MEMBRANE PERFORATION IN OUT PATIENT DEPARTMENT

Abstract
A study of closure of perforation was done using 50% of Tri-Chloro Acetic acid application at weekly intervals for four weeks as OPD procedure. 30 cases of dry, small (confined to one quadrant) and central perforation of tympanic membrane were selected for the study in the OPD of ENT department, Sree Balaji Medical College & Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, between May 2012 and May 2013. This study highlights the simple methods can be performed on an out-patient basis, without using microscope for closure of tympanic membrane central perforation. The study concluded with a considerable improvement in hearing together with relief from other symptoms.
