Abstract

The prime objective of current research was to scrutinize the remedial property of ethanolic extract of leaves of Stevia rebaudiana for screening of antidiabetic activity. Extract of Stevia rebaudiana when given orally in Albino rats was evaluated for the desired potential of hypoglycaemic action on alloxan-induced diabetic rats. It has been evaluated from the research that administration of plant extract was persuasive in effective reduction of blood glucose level along with no reduction in body weight, which are the most annoying effects of synthetic drugs. Stevia rebaudiana not only shows the potent antidiabetic activity but also eliminate the adverse effect on β-cells of pancreas.

Keywords: Stevia rebaudiana, albino wistar rats, alloxan, on β-cells of pancreas
