Abstract

Polypodium vulgare L., has an ancient history as a medicinal herb, nevertheless, the ferns and their therapeutic properties are less exploit in Algeria. The present paper contributes to enrich the scientific knowledge by developing the antioxidant capacities using DPPH  and reducing power tests, and the antimicrobial activity by testing methanolic extract against fungi (Aspergillus niger 2CA936, Aspergillus flavus NRRL3357 and Candida albicans ATCC1024), Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus ATCC25923) and Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Salmonella typhimurium ATCC 13311). The results show an important antioxidant capacities of crude extract, may use this plants as medicines sources.
