Abstract

In the treatment of epilepsy, use of nutritional supplements Vitamins, minerals, hormones and various nutrients include Vitamin B6, magnesium, Vitamin E, melatonin and manganese etc that may be reduced seizure frequency. Thiamine may improve cognitive function in epileptic patients. Vitamin K1 has been recommended near the end of pregnancy for women taking antiepileptic drugs. Supplementation with folic acid, Vitamin B6, biotin or Vitamin D, may be needed to prevent or treat deficiencies resulting from the use of antiepileptic drugs. Progesterone may be useful for women with cyclic exacerbations of seizures. In most cases, nutritional therapy is not a substitute for antiepileptic medicines.
