Abstract

Ring Spot Virus of papaya, one of the dangerous diseases of this crop, causes 10-100% crop damage in almost all papaya growing countries. This virus is (+) ve sense single stranded RNA virus and currently its types are type-P (PRSV-P) and type-W (PRSV-W). In this review article recent status of this virus regarding its structural complexity, transmission, proper and quick detection in laboratory and eco-friendly management have been accounted. As transgenic approach is not ethically recommended and approved in several ways, other approaches to control this disease are described in this article. It is expected that gathering of this knowledge of Ring Spot virus and its intensity in papaya crop will help for framing a proper model of this disease management.
