Abstract
The centre of adolescent problem remains sexual and reproductive behaviours as the period is characterized by high risk behaviours such as indiscriminate sexual intercourse exposing them to sexually transmitted diseases (STD) such as HIV/AIDS. This study aims at investigating the perceived pre-disposing factors to HIV/AIDS among in-school adolescents in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria. Five hypotheses were formulated to guide the conduct of the study. A cross section of 250 in-school students (SS1-SS3) was selected from five secondary schools in Ogbomoso North LGA for the study. A multistage sampling technique was used obtain participants. Information was obtained using structured questionnaire with 0.67 reliability coefficient. Frequency counts and percentage were used for demographic data presentation while the hypotheses were using chi-square. Data obtained were analyzed with Primer of Biostatistics version 3.01 at 0.05 level of significance. All the five null hypotheses (HO) were rejected and their alternative hypotheses (HA) were accepted which implies that the knowledge about HIV/AIDS, peer pressure, unprotected sex, media influence and multiple sex partners are significant pre-disposing factors of HIV/AIDS. Public should be enlightened on the concept of HIV/AIDS, causes signs and symptoms as well as pre-disposing factors of HIV/AIDS.
