Abstract
Objective: To investigate whether CPC has any inhibitory effect on the corrosion behaviour of different Orthodontic Micro Implants.
Methods: Seventy-two (72) Micro-implant, from three different distributors namely, Forestadent (OrthoEasy), Abso-Anchor (Dentos), and Hubit (Perfect Anchor), which were further divided into four groups of six (6) each based on the solutions they were tested in. The test solutions used were namely 5.3 pH artificial saliva (Solution A), 3.5 pH artificial saliva (Solution B), 5.3 pH artificial saliva with CPC (Solution C), and 3.5 pH artificial saliva with CPC (Solution D). All the samples were subsequently evaluated through the potentiostat for eliciting corrosion, Scanning Electron Microscope for observing surface characteristics, surface inconsistencies and Energy Dispersive X Ray Spectroscopy for identifying the amount of metal ions released.
Results: The results showed abnormal curves on the potentiostat readings for micro implants in Solution A and B and curves with less fluctuation for Solution C and D. Surface Analysis and Energy Dispersive X Ray Spectroscopy results showed greater inconsistencies and greater metal ion leaching in the implants tested in solutions without CPC compared to the other test solutions.
Conclusions: There is a vital synergistic or individual inhibitory effect of CPC on the corrosion of orthodontic micro implants.
