Abstract
'Fibrous' or 'flabby' alveolar ridges set a difficult task for the prosthodontists in rendering a stable and a retentive prosthesis for the patient in need. Complete denture wearers with flabby ridges may face a number of difficulties, of which major complaints would be pain and an ill-fitting denture. In particular, problems arise during the act of impression making, when forces cause the mobile denture bearing tissues to distort. Surgical intervention, most of the time may not be a viable options. In this article the various techniques that can be used for obtaining a reliable impression of the extremely flabby residual ridges are explained. Distortion of the displaceable residual ridges can be avoided by focusing on the design of the tray and the type of material to be used for making the impression, thus resulting in stable and retentive denture along with other qualities.
