Abstract

Background: Chest pain is a frequent patient complaint that requires a careful history and physical examination to determine its cause. Cardiac and esophageal causes of chest pain are common, but musculoskeletal disorders should also be taken into consideration because this may also result in chest pain. We report a case of a female patient who presented to the medicine department Out-patient clinic with a chief complaint of atraumatic chest pain and swelling of the anterior chest wall. After a thorough history and physical examination, as well as basic laboratory tests and chest radiography, she was diagnosed with Tietze’s syndrome.

Objective: This study was conducted to discuss the conservative management of a female with acute chest pain due to tietze syndrome.

Clinical Features: A 29-year-old office assistant had right sided anterior chest pain for 3 months.

Intervention and Outcome: Ultrasound, manipulation was performed to the associated hypokinetic costovertebral, costotransverse, and intervertebral zygapophyseal thoracic joints. As per supported pain level, client specific structured stretching and strength training were advised. Pain levels improved on numeric pain scale from the day of physiotherapeutic intervention.

Conclusion: This type of patient seemed to respond positively to physiotherapeutic intervention.
