Abstract
Reduction in area and production of potato has been observed due to various factors, among all factors affecting potato crop, PVY is the most important and destructive one. Yield loss due to this disease is up to 80%. As there is no chemical available to control the viral plant problems, so the best method to overcome this problem is the development of resistant varieties though conventional or molecular breeding protocols? We tested locally produced potato lines in natural field conditions for the availability of resistance sources. Twenty seven lines/varieties were grown in natural field conditions and were tested through ELISA for the presence or absences of resistance against PVY. Field study revealed that no line/variety was immune and was confirmed through ELISA test. Four lines lines/varieties were resistant against PVY i.e. Lady Rosetta, Crusier, FD 69-1 and FD 35-36 while two were moderately resistant and 21 were lines/varieties were highly susceptible to PVY.
