Abstract
Biomass gasification is gaining attention as a route for biomass energy production. Among different routes of biomass energy conversion, the gasification is considered a valid process to obtain a fuel gas. The producer gas from biomass gasification contains organic impurities (Tar), inorganic impurities and particulate matter in addition to the main components CO, H2, CO2, CH4, N2 and water vapor. Due to its condensable characteristics, Tar causes fouling and blocking of the pipes and equipment, such as gas engines or turbines. For utilization purposes, Tar need to be removed from producer gas, which results in decrease of efficiency and increases the cost of the process. After removal of Tar from producer gas, it should be disposed off somewhere. If it’s disposed on land, it may degrade the soil quality.
Considering the above fact the physical and chemical properties of soil were studies. Physical parameters of soil includes color, soil texture, moisture content, bulk density, pore space, water holding capacity and specific gravity, however chemical parameters includes pH, calcium carbonate, macronutrient (Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potassium) and essential micronutrient (Iron, Manganese, Zinc, Copper). Data were statistically analysis using Chi Square test at 5% & 10% level of Significance. Studies reveal that although most of the parameters are non-significance except water holding capacity, phosphorus and manganese are affected significantly (at 5% & 10% level of significance). However these parameters have very important role on crops yield, plant growth and vegetation. The aim of this research paper is to see the effect of Tar effluent on various physico-chemical properties of the soil.
