Abstract
Producer gas obtained from biomass gasification consists of H2, CO, CH4, CO2, N2, Tar, SPM and water vapor as well as some other gaseous contaminants such as NH3, H2S and SO2. Most of the producer gas application requires a low Tar content. Therefore it is necessary to clean the producer gas before its further applications. Several techniques are available to clean the producer gas, however everyone have some limitations. Here alkali hydroxide (NaOH) is used for conditioning of producer gas, considering that being an alkaline nature it should neutralize the producer gas, which is acidic nature. The conditioning of producer gas has done through different concentration of alkali hydroxide which generates effluent. This effluent contains impurities such as tar, SPM, and other contaminants. It is believed that effluent contains tar and other impurities, if discharge in the soil may degrade its soil’s quality. The physical and chemical parameters of soil were considered for studies. Physical parameters of soil includes color, soil texture, moisture content, bulk density, pore space, water holding capacity and specific gravity, however chemical parameters includes pH, calcium carbonate, macronutrient (Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potassium) and essential micronutrient (Iron, Manganese, Zinc, Copper). Data were statistically analysis using Chi Square test at 5% level of Significance. Although most of the parameters are non-significance (at 5% & 10% level of significance) except water holding capacity, nitrogen phosphorus and manganese in soil, however these parameters have very important role on crops yield, plant growth and vegetation.
The aim of this research paper is to see the effect of hydroxide effluent on various physic-chemical properties of the soil.
