Abstract

Fuzzy Numbers play a fundamental role in fuzzy mathematics analogous to the role played by the ordinary numbers in classical mathematics. In this paper the author defines the mean value of a finite number of Triangular / Trapezoidal Fuzzy Numbers and he combines this definition with the Centre of Gravity (COG) defuzzification technique to obtain criteria for student assessment. The results obtained are illustrated by three examples, through which the effectiveness of this new fuzzy assessment approach is validated compared to already established in earlier author’s works assessment methods of the classical (calculation of the means, GPA index) and the fuzzy logic (Trapezoidal Model).

Keywords: GPA index, fuzzy logic, trapezoidal fuzzy assessment model (TpFAM), fuzzy numbers (FNs), triangular fuzzy numbers (TFNs), trapezoidal fuzzy numbers (TpFNs)
