Abstract

This study explored the effects of sex, age, education and teaching experience on the Teachers’ Participation in Decision Making (TPDM) on Leadership (LE), Instructional Coordination (IC), Staff Development (SD), Academic Setting Evaluation (ASE), Rules and Discipline (RD) decision domains in private secondary schools in Dar es Salaam. Quantitative design was adopted in this study. The study population consisted of 122 teachers who were selected through random sampling. Questionnaires were administered to teachers’ in order to get information on the effects of personal variables on decision domains. Data was analyzed quantitatively using Mann Whitney U Test and Kruskal Wallis test. The findings show that only three teachers’ personal variables namely age, sex and teaching experience appear to have less effect on teachers’ participation in decision making in school, because few out of many items of the three decision domains have significant values P = 05. However, education has completely no significant effect in any decision domain in private secondary schools. A discussion is presented after study results.
