Abstract

The mental capacity of a community is the qualifying template for the culture and values of such a community. Nations depreciate in economic value as the quality of their mental capital depreciates. Mental capital is the software crucial to drive the economic hardware imported from various other countries. The importance of mental capital development qualifies it to have a designated ministry or department at all levels of government especially in developing countries. Rather than relying on economic indicators as proof of economic development; mental capital indices are most predictive of wealth creation. Since human resources enable key management functions like policy framework, execution strategy, coordination, evaluation, and envisioning, no company can thrive without innovative and resourceful people capital. Mental capital development paradigm is not just to prevent mental illness alone; it is also for the enhancement of mental wellbeing through productive engagement. The ultimate mandate of university education for instance should be the facilitation of mental capital development such that the department of general studies that has the mandate of stimulating this development should be given the due recognition. There is a need for any nation to grow and prosper to adopt this concept as a compelling matter.
