Abstract
c.roseus belong to family Apocynaceae is an herbaceous plant also recognized for example Madagascar periwinkle plants. The anti-microbial activity of Catharanthus roseus was evaluated. Against pathogenic bacteria strains (Escherichia coli, bacillus, Pseudomonas and Aeromonas hydrophila) and fungal strains Aspergillus niger (Black fungi) and Aspergillus flavus, Rhizopus stolonifer using well diffusion method. The aim of was study to identify antibacterial activity from the Catharanthus roseus extract. The extract of plant tested showed actual strong antimicrobial activity against diffusion method. The different piece of C. roseus (leafs, roots, stem and flower were used and extracts were exposed to antibacterial test. The extracts of C. roseus did not showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The leaf extract in ethanol also determines antifungal activity against the pathogenic fungi. This study also examined the title role of environmental factors on the antimicrobial properties of this plant.
Keywords: Catharanthus roseus, medicinal plant, leaf root, stem extract, pathogenic microorganisms.
