Abstract
Medicinal plants have been used by us since the medieval ages. Humans have been using their medicinal properties from before either discovering them accidentally or knowingly. These medicinal plants have been exploited so much that they have become endangered and some are even critically endangered. This being the scenario scientists had come up with a technique called somatic embryogenesis which basically clones the plant without undergoing fertilization and without altering its genetic content and producing it in numerous quantities. This helps to preserve the endangered plant species allowing its medicinal properties to be accessed by all those need it.
Keywords: Somatic embryogenesis, Gloriosa superba, colchicine, nanoparticles, thin cell layer technique.
