Abstract

Pyrolysed Waste polyethene was functionalized by maleinisation process with maleic anhydride under nitrogen atmosphere. The product was then esterified with ethylene glycol and glycerol also under nitrogen condition, in the absence of any catalyst. The melting points of the maleinated and esterified waxes were in the range of 48-78ºC. Viscosity measurements of the maleinated and esterified waxes showed decreased molecular weights of the waxes as the temperature and time of pyrolysis of the waxes increased.

Keywords: Esterification, maleinisation, melting points, viscosity measurements
