Abstract

Evidence of correlation in simultaneous wind speed data appears when they are measured in the neighbourhood, as has been widely reported in the literature. However, an interesting issue that has not been studied in such depth is cross-correlation between series of different data sets. In this article a method is presented to simulate simultaneous wind speed series of data in a pair of locations in which cross-correlation has been considered and also its application to the reliability assessment of a power system. The consideration of cross-correlation can affect power system reliability assessment, whose indices can be quantified after taking into account recorded items such as number, frequency and duration of failures. In this paper a case study is presented where differences have been made clear between the cases simulated by considering cross-correlation in the reliability assessment or not.
