Abstract

A new epoxy paint material comprising the multiwall carbon nanotubes was developed for effective corrosion protection of steels in neutral salt medium. The increasing of the corrosion protection properties of the coating with carbon nanotubes (CNT) as compared to the undoped material was established. The strengthening of the coating protective properties is due to the hydrophobicity of CNT and due to the adsorption by CNT of the particles supporting the corrosion process (metal cations, atoms and molecules of oxygen, hydroxyl groups, anions). The quantum chemical calculations showed that CNTs have a high affinity to the listed atoms and ions.
