Abstract

The Arabs have written one of the most golden pages of the history of the science, for being the transmitters and wealth-producing of the thought and the knowledge of the Antiquity, especially of the Greeks, to the Europe of the Renaissance through three phases or stages. The high scientific level reached by the Arab and Islamic civilization in the Middle Ages is witnessed by its many developments and advances made in the different areas of knowledge. One of them is the art of manufacturing, delivering and selling drugs and remedies, in which the Arabs were pioneers getting a great progress in the profession of pharmacist. This article focuses mainly on these topics by way of introduction of the study of medieval Arab science with emphasis on the role of Islamic civilization in the advances of pharmacology and pharmacopeia in the Middle Ages.
