Abstract

Protection of distribution networks is one of the most important issues in power systems. Because protection system operates in different operating states, different fault scenarios may occur. Protection systems must provide different schemes and equipments to detect and to react to each and every one of these fault scenarios, from the most simple of them to the most complex and compelling. This paper establishes a new problem for IDMT Directional Over-Current Relays operation in presence of Series FACTS i.e. Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor in distribution network. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the direct effect of varying reactance of the TCSC on the faults current as well as on the operating time.

Keywords: Power system, IDMT directional over-current relay, TCSC
