Abstract

The primary objective was to study of the degradation of oily wastewaters from refinery companies using metal complex and metal nanocomposites (CS) of the quaternized polymers of cationic quaternized poly(4-vinyl pyridine), (P4-VP). The poly (N-trimethyl Silyl-4- Vinyl pyridinium iodide) Q was prepared by quaternization of the P4-VP by iodo tri methyl silane then complexes with ferric chloride. Also, the metal nanocomposites of the quaternized polymers with nano zero valent iron (nZVI), were prepared and their surface properties were studied. The influence of complex concentrations, hydrogen peroxide, initial pH of the solution and the time of the degradation were investigated. The oxidation mechanism, depends on the production of hydroxyl radicals (•OH) that play the role as the oxidative agents. From the results, it showed that the complex of Q, combined of complex with H2O2 and CS with H2O2 can degrade a relatively up to 40–84% of oil in wastewater.
