Abstract

Mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) is a self-configuring infrastructureless network of mobile devices without wired backbone or centralized administration. The network nodes communicate with one another over scarce wireless channels in a multi-hop fashion. The ad-hoc network is adaptable to the highly dynamic topology resulting from the mobility of network nodes and the changing propagation conditions. The design of a routing protocol that can respond quickly to network conditions with low protocol overhead is a fundamental challenge in MANET. A routing protocol should quickly adapt to the topology changes and efficiently search for new paths with minimal power consumption. The proposed algorithm quickly adapts to the topology changes by means of effective clusterheads selected based on stability, connectivity, power level and average speed. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm was measured in terms of packet deliver ratio, end-to-end delay and control overhead.

Keywords: MANET, clustering, cluster head, routing, stability, connectivity, power level, speed
