Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the scope of reliability improvement of identified process industry and describe a method for evaluating the maintainability criticality index (MCI) which leads improvement in the maintenance plan. This paper deals with performance reliability of continuous process industries of interest to many applications in maintenance planning where multi-criteria decision-making approaches are very useful. It uses multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) based two different approaches: technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and grey-complex proportional assessment (COPRAS-G) in optimizing maintenance activities of the aluminium wire rolling mill plant.

The primary findings of this research work are prioritization of maintenance activities of critical components of targeted process industry by comparison of the results obtained through two different MCDM approaches. It is assumed that presented failure model may not represent failures due to the first point as adequate of design for such components are not checked for high failure rate. The proposed work is challenging and interdisciplinary; it will help to understand the working lives of components and associated failures. It leads to re-engineer the maintenance excellence for major process industries.
