Abstract
Seasonal changes of organic components in the muscle of Xenentodon cancila from Mehadrigedda reservoir were examined, in pre-monsoon, monsoon and post-monsoon seasons. Protein, lipid and carbohydrate contents were higher in pre-monsoon season, whereas moisture content was low. The percentages obtained were: proteins 15.90, 13.00, 12.50; lipids 4.40, 4.20, 3.60 and carbohydrates 2.80, 2.00, 1.50 in pre-monsoon, monsoon and post-monsoon seasons respectively. Significant differences were observed in the biochemical composition of muscle tissue which indicate the qualitative and quantitative nature of fish sample for nutritive purpose when compare to other available fish.
