CONTRIBUTIONS OF SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF AKUNGBA AKOKO, ONDO STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract
This paper reviews the socio-economic characteristics and contributions of small scale industries to sustainable development of Akungba Akoko. Six common small scale industries were purposively sampled during reconnaissance survey, thereafter; random sampling method was used to select one hundred and eight adult respondents for this study. Data collected were summarized into percentages, and frequencies Tables, while Chi-square statistical method was employed to test the significance of the stated hypothesis. At α = 0.05, it was discovered that small scale industries significantly contributes to the sustainable development of the study area because the calculated X2 value (11.59) > the tabulated X2 value (9.49). With absolute residual value ≥ 2 increase in employment (2.08) and increase in standard of living (2.38) greatly contributed to the significance of small scale industries in the study area. This paper recommends that provision of housing needs and other basic infrastructural facilities such as roads, pipe borne water and electricity among others, should be given priority in the study area.
