Abstract

The objective of this work was to formulate a stable soluble concentrate formulation of Schiff base (Sch). The Schiff base was synthesised and its structure was confirmed using FTIR and elemental analysis techniques. The formulation was tested in vitro against ten isolates of eight important phytopathogenic fungi by the poisoned food method. In addition, different parameters related to formulation, characterisation and physical stability were determined. The results revealed that the prepared formulation exhibited good stability after preparation at different storage conditions and no separation was observed during the stability test. In addition, the percentage inhibition of mycelial growth of synthesised and formulated Schiff base increases with increasing concentration. The EC50 values of synthesised Schiff base on the tested phytopathogenic fungi; Alternaria citri, Alternaria tenuissimaLasiodiplodia theobromae, Botrytis cinerea, isolate 1st Fusarium oxysporum, isolate 2nd Fusarium oxysporum, Macrophomina phaseolina, Pestalotia longisetula, isolate 1st Rhizoctonia  solani and isolate 2nd Rhizoctonia solani were 2268.78, 1556.03, 1320.76, 316.84, 3332.03, 2453, 1127.41, 2511.52, 1022.45 and 870.35 ppm. Whereas, the EC50 values of the soluble concentrate formulation were 91.95, 89.88, 41.20, 38.02, 176.62, 119.41, 34.11, 93.42, 51.14 and 25.54 ppm, respectively. The soluble concentrate formulation has a potential antifungal among control of some phytopathogenic fungi and did not induce side effect on the germination seedlings.
